A Mobile landmark
Built for Mobile’s evolving history
Constructed in 1852, the building at 1203 Dauphin Street has served as a private residence, the LeBeau Apartments, and—since 1996—the office of Tobias & Comer Law.
The home was constructed by Frederick Stewart, a cotton factor, in the Greek Revival style. Its original plan featured a central hallway with four rooms on each side.
In 1902, Arthur Kimball, a tug boat captain and owner of Mobile Towing, purchased the home. His 1910 renovation blended Colonial Revival and Arts and Crafts details into the building.

Original character
The details tell the story
The downstairs fireplaces on the west side of the home retain their original black Italian marble. The 1910 renovation introduced Victorian lace ironwork and classical revival details to the eastside fireplaces.
The house also retains original wide plank flooring in places, operable transoms above the interior doors, original baseboards and hardware, and a staircase rail reflecting the original classical revival style. Much of the interior reflects the 1910 renovation, including narrower floorboards.
Today
A historic setting for the practice of law
The building is now home to Tobias & Comer Law, where attorneys Desi Tobias, Bryan Comer, and Lacey Smith practice.
